This is the Colorado Hay Probe (push style) in action - In the picture on the left, the hay probe easily enters a bale of alfalfa.
Push the probe into the bale about half the length of the tip tube for an adequate sample size. Twist slightly if you encounter resistance.

Place the protector tip over the hay probe tip to protect your fingers and hands. Insert the clearing rod into the probe to push the collected sample into the chamber.
